This is the reason I took the time to build this site . . .
By documenting our journey to better health, I'm hoping it will help others with their steps toward improved health. Our minutia may resonate and help someone else connect the dots. If our journey can benefit you, the time spent putting it here was time well spent.
As Terry and I get healthier I feel less interest in returning to the detail of how we got to this point. I'm hearing the same from others who have fought the same fight. Once they have enough health to get on with living life, they no longer participate in the community of those who are ill. The newly well become part of the community actually living life, beyond the mire of illness, frustration and worry. The time they make available to help others reduces and the drive to be involved in others' struggles fades.
So while Terry and I are out building and mowing and sewing and growing, we hope our journey toward better health helps you on your journey.
This next bit is a bit of a rant followed by an overview of what we learned.
Fighting back from illness can be a long process. I lost a lot of my life to ill health and I truly think it was totally unnecessary. If the doctors I saw in my early 20's had actually diagnosed Celiac's disease instead of advising I see a psychologist, everything after that would have been completely different. They say hindsight is 20/20 and they are so right.
You can tell I don't believe the medical profession has the best answers. I'm sure part of the reason is I expect them to be more than their inherent capable. Based on my life's experience, the medical profession has been pretty darned clueless. I know that doesn't say much for our medical profession as a whole, but health care providers are trained to treat the symptoms, not schooled in finding and fixing the underlying cause. If the cause isn't immediately obvious, doctors are more inclined to tell you your mental than they are to dig deeper to figure out why you're sick. Doctors are human too, and we all leap at the easy answer. And if you have systemic candida, your doctor is much more likely to prescribe pricey drugs with unpleasant side effects for candida control because it's what big pharma produces and what he can safely and legally prescribe. He isn't going to tell you maple syrup with baking soda may totally eliminate your candida with few side effects at almost no cost any more than he's going to paint a bulls eye on his forehead and stand in the forest during hunting season.
Sadly, big pharma has a role to play in this mess. Don't get me wrong, big pharma isn't all bad. Some of what they produce is vital. On the negative side, their best profit is in our continued long term dependence on what they manufacture. Their best self-interest is in pushing drugs that ameliorate symptoms. There's little profit or interest in developing protocols that quickly and completely cure disease at pennies a dose. The last thing they're going to support or produce is an inexpensive yet effective homeopathic cure. There's no profit in that. Welcome to modern medicine.
Once you figure out what's wrong, getting healthy takes time. It's been over 8 years since I first starting working with a CNT to figure out what was wrong with me. I could not have started the journey without the CNT's help. Her insight, logic and experience were the toe in the door. After decades of different doctors with few answers, it was a relief to find someone who was willing to help me figure out what was wrong. Curing my ills, once I understood what was wrong and found the right treatment, was neither difficult nor expensive. Fortunately, I learned the solutions to my problems slowly or I would have jumped in with both feet and possibly made everything worse. I truly am blessed.
And my final bit of hindsight advice is . . . go slowly. If you try to fix too much too fast, you stand a chance of adding to the problems you've already got. You may want to be well by tomorrow, next week or next month, but your system won't be able to handle that level of cleansing. Your body has a finite capacity for cleansing. Exceeding that capacity can do more harm than good. You didn't get sick overnight, you're not going to get well overnight. Be smart. Go slow. Do not pile on. Don't try to kill everything and/or fix everything at once. More people die from the treatment of cancer than die from cancer. Your "getting well" protocols should be thoughtful and measure so they improve your life, not make it more miserable. Do your cleansing one step at a time. Do one thing and wait until you've reached a plateau before adding the next treatment.
Reading through the details of our journey is important to understand the steps we took and the different protocols we used to get where we are. I can't say the same steps will work for you, but maybe there's something in there that will help.
And finally, here are the Cliff Notes:
- Clean out the garage - commit to a good quality colon cleansing program. If it's not removing plaque, it's not a good colon cleansing program. If you don't remove the plaque, you aren't going to be able to get rid of the fungus and parasites that live in the layers of plaque. If you don't clean the garage you will be tripping over things as you try to wend your way to the curb with the new load of stuff that's got to go.
- Know what your allergies and sensitivities are. You cannot get well if you are continuing to poison your system. You increase your toxin load every time you sin, so wise up and don't sin until you're better and your body can handle the transgression. I had Häagen-Dazs Five Lemon yesterday. I was a pig and ate it all by myself, the whole pint. When I did that two months ago I had open sores in my right ear for days. Today I have no open sores, just a little bit of extra fluid which was gone by noon. <euphoric grin> That shows I'm getting better! Better doesn't mean I can do a no-no like that very often with the expectation that my condition will continue to improve. I know better. My advice is, if you must sin, do it seldom and make it count.
- The liver is part of the garage that needs regular cleaning. Think of it as a systemic filter for the blood. If it gets plugged, it stops filtering. With nowhere to go, all that junk keeps circling through your body, accumulating and adding to your unwellness.
- Detox. My favorite detox is sodium chlorite, easy to take, inexpensive and effective. YMMV
- Assume you have parasites and treat yourself accordingly. Parasites are a lot like insects. There are way more of them than there are of us. If you're alive, you have parasites. If you have pets, if you work in the garden, if you've ever gone barefoot, waded through the water, had sex . . . if you haven't spent your life in a sterile bubble, it's pretty safe to assume you have parasites.
- If you've ever had foot fungus or a yeast infection, you have fungus inside your body. Get rid of it. If you starve it by not eating the things it likes best, you just slow it down. I have Celiac's disease. My latest jump toward better health was when I understood fungus lives in the mucous membranes and nothing can reach in there to kill it except food. Sodium chlorite will keep it out of your bloodstream so it can't spread, but it can't easily touch the fungus (or parasites) living in mucous membranes. If you feed fungus poison it likes (maple syrup mixed with baking soda), you weaken and kill it faster than it can reproduce.
- And finally, drink lots of water, get lots of exercise, eat good quality fresh food, enjoy the sunshine, the company of friends, laugh, love, live.
Added 8/12/09 I got a liver cleanse protocol from my CNT I really like. Not long and not arduous, with the exception of the last day. Schedule to make sure that day hits on a day at home. Ask me and I'll give you the link.
Added 3/12/10 A friend told me about MMS (sodium chlorite - see page 54). Paired with the fungus killer below, I feel I've finally gotten my life back.
Added 6/16/10 I learned of a very effective and cheap killer for systemic fungus. If your scalp itches or your sinuses are plugged or your ears run, you might have systemic fungus. Ask me and I'll give you the information.
If you have questions, email me.
And this is where the story began . . .
I have had an amazing number of people contact me regarding my testimonial on DrNatura.com. I find I'm repeating myself, telling the same stuff, answering the same questions. I don't mind, but I get concerned I'm going to leave out some vital bit of information that will make a difference for someone. In an effort to make sure I cover everything, I have paraphrased things here, but have tried to keep the emails and responses in the right order.
Terry got really really sick and missed more than 8 weeks of work before he finally admitted something was wrong. It was a pretty terrifying time. This is the email I sent to our CNT when Terry first got so sick. At the point of this email I had been having ongoing conversations with her regarding Terry's health.
I wanted to take just a minute to catch you up on what's going on with Terry.
Terry's had persistently worsening diarrhea for about a year, with it dramatically worsening in November. Even after stopping work at Thanksgiving his condition continued to worsen.
When Terry first went to see Barbara Gehrett (his dr), he had a lot of abdominal pain, gas and diarrhea. She couldn't find anything definitively wrong and sent him home with instruction to take Imodium. <sigh> (This is the first time she's blown him off in the 20 years he's been seeing her, but then he's never gone to her with anything serious before.) The imodium made everything immeasurably worse because it stopped the toxins in the system from coming out, making him constipated and made the pain worse. MUCH worse. <shaking head at dr> I hate it when drs only treat the symptoms instead of trying to figure out why the symptoms are there. I think the only thing that kept him going was the colloidal silver and clay I was dosing him with twice a day.
He called her to say he was worse, much worse and she scheduled him for a cat scan (soonest they could do it is Feb 1, 6 days away).
At that point I started him on a liquid diet. It took me two days to talk him into letting me treat him for something wrong intestinally.
I got my Dr. Jensen book back from Cindy and started him on the seven day cleanse. I put chlorophyll in his first colema and he was vilely sick. Diarrhea and vomit were both black and vile smelling. By the end of the day he pretty much had an empty system and was very suspicious of what I was putting him through.
The second day was better, no vomiting or diarrhea, but he still wasn't onboard my treatment-plan train.
Sunday morning (third day) I added colloidal clay to his colema and after the colema he got rid of a bunch more smelly black stuff (no vomiting). By this point he's on the train with me and is actively helping get himself well instead of eyeing me suspiciously. Every day since he's been noticeably improving.
Today (Monday) he's alert, bright eyed, feeding animals and doing the dishes and has regained his sense of humor. Abdominal tenderness is way down (his fat hairy cat is again allowed to lay in his lap). He's got a couple more days to go before we'll know for sure what we're doing is completely backing off whatever's wrong. From the location of tenderness and swelling and the initial sickness when treated we're pretty sure it's his appendix. If the way he's improving is any indication we caught it just in time. He was on straight liquids, but has now switched to a very light diet of fruits, yogurt, broths and juices and will stay on that diet through his cat scan. From there we'll reevaluate.
Today (Monday) his morning colema had chlorophyll. Tonight's was colloidal clay. The effluent had fairly yellowish chunks that were large pea/kernel of corn size. Tomorrow morning I'll do flax seed tea in his colema water, then clay again tomorrow night.
There you go, the less than reader's digest version of what we've been going through.
Because the Dr. Jensen Seven Day Cleanse is very arduous, and there was NO way I was going to be able to keep Terry on it for the full 7 days, I started searching the internet for a colon cleansing program and found Colonix and Toxinout on the Dr. Natura site. Throwing my heart over the fence in front of me, I order one of each, enough for each of us for 2 weeks. I knew if I did it with Terry, he'd stick with it. The results were nothing short of amazing, for both of us, so I reordered. After just a short time on Colonix/Toxinout, I posted this testimonial on the Dr. Natura site.
My husband has had steadily worsening diarrhea for the last year. It got so bad he didn't return to work after the Thanksgiving holiday. He was home for over 2 months before he accepted his problems were not stress related and he was not going to get better on his own. He went to see his doctor of 20 years, who put him on antidepressants and told him to take Imodium for his diarrhea. Terry's problems got dramatically worse, almost overnight. Now, instead of diarrhea, something was pressing on his ureter making it impossible to urinate while sitting, rectal pressure caused discomfort when sitting and his abdominal pain was intense. Within two days he was bedridden. When he called his doctor to report the change she scheduled him for a cat scan.
In the five days between making and keeping that appointment, we started a light version of Bernard Jensen's 7 day cleanse, twice daily colonics boosted by a liquid diet which included distilled aloe vera (healing) and colloidal silver (anti-bacterial). By the fourth day he was a different man. His eyes were bright and his color was back, the pain in his abdomen had diminished to a bearable level and his bloated abdomen had reduced in size. He was able to drive himself to his cat scan appointment, 90 minutes away. The cat scan revealed Terry has diverticulitis. We had managed to get a handle on the infection, but we still had a significant problem to solve. We'd staved off the devil, but we were far from home free.
Because Terry was unable/unwilling to continue Bernard Jensen's cleanse (a complicated liquid diet with fiber and pills 5 times a day with twice daily colonics), I needed something different, something that would do the same cleansing job but would be much easier to use. In my internet search on diverticulitis and colon cleansing I found DrNatura. After reading the testimonials and studying the products I order both the Toxinout and Colonix programs. Terry works in an industry where he is exposed to petroleum products, so the detox was a must.
We've been on the program for a month and the result is nothing short of miraculous. Terry's energy level had gotten so low he wasn't able to work. Shortly after starting the Colonix/Toxinout program he was working again, and when he's not working he's out doing things around the farm. I am amazed. His health and energy level continue to improve.
In reading the labels I was impressed with how thorough and well thought-out the program is. Whoever put this together really knows their stuff and has packaged it in a way that makes it easy to use. It does the same thing Bernard Jensen's system does in a way that is easy to take. We are continuing the colonics, as it is very important to keep the area of the diverticuli clean, but we have reduced them to one every two to four days as needed.
I have heard so many horror stories about people with diverticulitis; surgery, special diets, continuous problems. Cleaning the large intestine and getting rid of the plaque, allowing the colon to heal properly, are, I think, key to eliminating this condition. Not managing it, eliminating it. When we've finished the 90 day cleanse Terry will go back for another cat scan to document the change. I expect to see a significant change.
I did say ‘we've been on the program.’ I have had problems with parasites (I even had them in my blood stream) and systemic fungus overgrowth. I have been working to solve those problems for the last two years. I had already done a parasite cleanse, and had been using [a different] colon cleansing program to try and rid myself of the intestinal plaque and related fungus overgrowth. Since starting Colonix/Toxinout programs I have noticed wonderful changes besides improved energy. Things in my body that were damaged are finally healing. The ankle I hurt 17 years ago no longer bothers me. Last week I hiked down to Queen Emma's Bath and back and wasn't lame afterward! This is HUGE! That I was actually able to hike the steep, twisty and rough trail was wonderful! That I was still walking on my ankle relatively pain free the next day is miraculous.
In the testimonials here everyone talks about the stuff they expel. In all the other colon cleansing programs I have done I have never had the level of cleansing Colonix provides. The plaque is coming out in big chunks every day, and every day I do a little victory dance for the progress we are making toward better health.
Almost immediately after my testimonial was posted I started receiving emails asking questions. Please take the time to read the conversations. Of the 50 plus people I've conversed with, there are a couple people who didn't find the products helpful. I have included those conversations as well.
It's been a number of months since we started the program, and now's a good time to provide an update on how we're doing.
Terry's a new man. He's working full time (still on light duty from the damaged shoulder) and has lots of energy for working around our place as well! He's doing things around our place with an energy that's wonderful to watch. He is no longer a gray ghost. He no longer looks six months pregnant. There is no downside here. At one point ran out of fiber (yes, we're still taking a scoop each every morning) and after about 4 days his stool loosened to the point he had diahrrea. Even though he eats lots of fiber (whole grain breads, fruit and veges) it's not enough to keep his system stable. For Terry, the fiber is a must. Because of the diverticulitis he's taking probiotics at night to keep his system loaded with good bacteria as insurance.
I have improved greatly. I still have yeast in my ears, and haven't gotten rid of all the plaque at the small intestine end of my large intestine. I will do another 90 day cleanse later this year. When I do, Terry will do a more abbreviated cleanse which will become an annual event unless something happens that makes us think it should be a semi-annual event. I'll continue cleansing every six or eight months until I have a handle on the yeast and have gotten my intestine completely cleansed.
It's January 2010 and time for another update.
Terry's retired and only working summers. He hauls produce for National Frozen Foods and he loves it. He tried driving log truck again but it's just too hard on his system. He takes fiber every 3-5 days depending on how he's feeling. I've started him on activated sodium chlorite to see if we can get further healing and better health. I'm betting we can.
I'm doing better as well. I learned about activated sodium chlorite from a friend who's taking it. After he told me about it he sent me the e-book by the guy who discovered it. After reading the book I was intriqued. I had some 5% SC sold under the name "Prime PH" and I started using it activated as advised in the book. Wow, talk about a difference. I had amazing results almost overnight. In just a couple days my ears have stopped itching and draining liquid. My touchy digestion has steadied and I no longer have on-again/off-again bowels. I'm eating without having a reaction.
I'm hoping activated SC is the answer to ridding my system totally of the fungus I've been fighting. I feel better than I have ever felt. I'm not hungry all the time and I'm losing weight without having changed my diet. I'm praying this is the silver bullet it appears to be.
I was doing so much better I decided to dose Chuck, the toy rat terrier I rescued last February. He was in awful condition when we got him; ear mites, horrible coat, scars on both eyes and fleas. In the year we've had him I've solved a lot of his problems but couldn't seem to get a handle on the persistent sinus infection and the infection on his back. He was continually scrubbing at his eyes and the lymph glands under his jaw and asking me to itch his back. Treating his ears, eyes and back with various preps wasn't getting us anywhere. After a couple days on activated SC his eyelids are no longer raw and irritated looking and he's stop scrubbing at his eyes and jaw. He says his back still itches but not as badly. Now that the inflamation is in check the hair around his eyelids will be able to grow in. It's wonderful to see him so much more comfortable. He's so tiny he only gets a half a drop but it's doing the trick.
I have since gotten supplies to make my own activated sodium chlorite. I'd recommend you do the same.
